The TETON Tune – Up

an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” Benjamin Franklin“

Some health habits are instilled in us at a young age. For as long as you can remember, for example, you made annual treks to both the pediatrician and the dentist.

As you entered adulthood, you probably transitioned to a primary care physician for an annual wellness visit, and maybe even a different dentist better equipped to address adult needs for your cleanings to prevent gum disease. You may have seen the eye doctor annually to have your eyes checked.

Anytime you’ve moved or switched insurance carriers, one of your first priorities has been to track down new providers for your preventative care.

You probably figure that between the three healthcare professionals (Doctor, Dentist, Optometrist), all of your health needs are covered, right?

As it turns out, these healthcare professionals aren’t specifically trained to assess your musculoskeletal system, which is comprised of your muscles, bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints and other connective tissues.

Then who is the right healthcare professional to ensure that these essential internal structures are working properly and helping to support, stabilize and move your body?

A Physical Therapist

At an annual physical therapy “checkup,” your PT will

  • Gather your medical history
  • Review past injuries and current complaints if any
  • Discuss concerns due to limitations in activity due to pain, or fear of having pain or sustaining an injury
  • Perform screening tests and other assessments of your muscles and joints
  • Perform functional movement assessments
  • Establish a baseline of your physical abilities, fitness level and personal health.
  • Provide you with information and programming advice to help you take care of yourself without drugs or risky surgery

Physical therapists are educated on how your musculoskeletal system functions properly and are trained to identify movement dysfunctions before they grow into bigger problems. No other health care professional can do this for you!

Four Pines Physical Therapy has Developed the TETON TUNE UP as Your Annual Physical Exam for Your Movement System!

  • Talk about past injuries, surgeries or pain that may be affecting you
  • Discuss your medication and medical history and how that may be affecting your physical capacity
  • Have a Full Body Muscle and Joint Assessment (strength, flexibility, coordination)
  • Have a Skilled Professional Watch You Move and look for imbalances that may affect you or that may be causing you pain
  • Assess what limitations that you may have due to pain, and how to cure them
  • Learn How To Take Care of YOURSELF naturally without dangerous medications
  • Learn How to Avoid risky surgery
  • Leave with important information and a program that is designed for you so that you can take care of yourself, naturally!

To maximize YOUR TETON TUNE UP with one of our Physical Therapists, it’s important to be prepared before your appointment. To ensure that you cover everything and address any issues you may be having, make a list and bring it with you that includes:

  • Health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure, sleep
  • Current medications, including supplements
  • List of what may be bothering you (back, neck, knees etc) if anything
  • List of what you have difficulties doing due to pain or weakness – if any
  • List of any Concerns that You Have
  • List of what you would like to Prevent or Take Care Of!
  • Physical Fitness Activities / Sport Activities
  • New activities you’re considering
  • Fitness goals

By understanding what sports and recreational activities you’re currently participating in and the fitness goals you’re aiming to achieve, your PT will be better prepared to make recommendations and tailor a home exercise program designed to help you achieve your goals.

The information exchange between you and your PT is critical to forming an ongoing relationship, and to ensuring that you’re functioning and moving at top form. Better yet, if you do get injured or experience pain or develop physical limitations, you can come straight back to YOUR physical therapist for immediate care and they will have a base-line for you to compare. This will make your immediate care more effective and efficient since you have established a relationship with YOUR PHYSICAL THERAPIST.

Making wellness and PREVENTION a part of your everyday life and taking steps to ensure that your musculoskeletal system is functioning at top notch can be very empowering and rewarding.

Why not begin—or continue—that journey with YOUR PERSONAL PHYSICAL THERAPIST?
